6.27 Window shading for enhanced ventilation

6.27.Hungary-3-detail-i Highlights Relevant to Sustainable Design:

We can rethink window shading and thermal mass heating systems.

This sketch includes at the upper left of center an illustration of a window that has a window shading system. You can open it out to allow natural ventilation and also benefit from added security when it is closed. In the lower right, a circular home wood-burning furnace is built with masonry to hold the heat and emit it back into the room rather than letting the majority of the heat go up the chimney.

Author and illustrator: Charlie Szoradi is an architect, inventor, and the CEO of Independence LED Lighting. He writes about many other topics related to window shading through his extensive travels around the world.

If you have found this posting online, it is an excerpt from Mr. Szoradi’s book Learn from Looking that served as the inspiring seed content for this drawing share resource.
